At Turner Restorations we like a challenge, and this project was certainly that! We were commissioned to refinish this roll top post office desk, circa 1890 that had seen better days.
Rolltop Desk
This desk had been disassembled, moved from one home to another, and stored in poor conditions for many years. This, as well as water damage, and a mouse infestation had taken its toll.
Rolltop Desk
As with many desks of this era tambours were intricately designed with a multitude of compartments, drawers, and slots, all with very specific uses. This level of skill and craftsmanship is rarely seen these days.

Once the stripping, repairs and refinishing had been completed, we replicated the original writing surface by inlaying a new leather top.

Lastly the brass drawer pulls, knobs, handles and hinges were polished and installed adding to the beauty and functionality of this impressive piece.

Fully restored and looking as it would have over one hundred years ago, this beautiful tambour desk is fully functional and ready to be put to use once again.
